Unsupervised robust nonparametric learning of hidden community properties

We consider learning of fundamental properties of communities in large noisy networks, in the prototypical situation where the nodes or users are split into two classes according to a binary property, e.g., according to their opinions or preferences on a topic. For learning these properties, we propose a nonparametric, unsupervised, and scalable graph scan procedure that is, in addition, robust against a class of powerful adversaries. In our setup, one of the communities can fall under the influence of a knowledgeable adversarial leader, who knows the full network structure, has unlimited computational resources and can completely foresee our planned actions on the network. We prove strong consistency of our results in this setup with minimal assumptions. In particular, the learning procedure estimates the baseline activity of normal users asymptotically correctly with probability 1; the only assumption being the existence of a single implicit community of asymptotically negligible logarithmic size. We provide experiments on real and synthetic data to illustrate the performance of our method, including examples with adversaries.Comment: Experiments with new types of adversaries adde

Roadway traffic safety is a major concern for transportation governing agencies as well as ordinary citizens.Data Mining is taking out of hidden patterns from huge database. It is commonly used in a marketing, surveillance, fraud detection and scientific discovery. In data mining, machine learning is mainly focused as research which is automatically learnt to recognize complex patterns and make intelligent decisions based on data. Globalization has affected many countries. There has been a drastic increase in the economic activities and consumption level, leading to expansion of travel and transportation. The increase in the vehicles, traffic lead to road accidents. Considering the importance of the road safety, government is trying to identify the causes of road accidents to reduce the accidents level. The exponential increase in the accidents data is making it difficult to analyse the constraints causing the road accidents. The paper describes how to mine frequent patterns causing road accidents from collected data set. We find associations among road accidents and predict the type of accidents for existing as well as for new roads. We make use of association and classification rules to discover the patterns between road accidents and as well as predict road accidents for new roads

Aim: Various physical, psychological and hormonal changes during the perimenopause may affect their quality of life. It results in Joint pain, stiffness and urinary incontinence may limit the ability to take the exercise and to socialize. Poor sleep and mood changes can have an impact on women`s ability to work effectively. Objective: To categories level of physical activity in terms of light, moderate and vigorous through RAPA scale. Methodology: Questionnaire based survey was carried out in 100 perimenopausal women aged 45 to 55 years. After the anthropometric and demographic assessment RAPA was administered and then data was analyzed. Result: Out of 100 subjects only 17 women were categorized as active with moderate physical activity for 30 minutes on 5 or more days of week and 10 did vigorous physical activity for 20 minutes for 3 or more days a week and were called as active. Out of the 10 active only 4 did flexibility and no strengthening. Conclusion: Only 10 perimenopausal women could reach second level of RAPA. 22 were eliminated in question no. 1 i.e. they were inactive apart from daily household activities . KEY WORDS: Perimenopausal women; Rapid Assessment of Physical Activity

Effect of textile softeners on BTCA treated cotton fabric

96-101The effect of two softeners (Sapamine® OC and Ultratex® ASG) on physical properties of BTCA finished cotton fabric has been studied. Bleached cotton fabrics are treated with 1, 2, 3, 4-butane tetracarboxylic acid (BTCA) followed by finishing with a cationic and a silicone softener by conventional pad-dry-cure method. Properties, such as crease recovery angle, absorbency, whiteness index, tensile strength, moisture regain, surface morphology and crystallinity of the finished fabrics, have been evaluated. The crease recovery angle of the finished fabrics increases from 154° to 257° after treatment with BTCA and further increases to 266° after BTCA+silicone softener based finishing. The absorbency of cationic softener finished fabric is found to be higher than that of silicone softener finished fabrics. Tensile strength reduces after BTCA finishing by more than 50%, and about 17% softeners is recovered. Scanning electron microscope images show smooth ridges and surface characteristics of cotton fibres in BTCA treated samples as well as deposition of softener on the fibre surface in cationic and silicone softener finished fabrics

Effect of different mercerization techniques on tactile comfort of cotton fabric

    Get PDF
The effect of different mercerization techniques on tactile comfort properties of woven cotton fabric has been studied.Desized, scoured and bleached cotton fabrics are subjected to four different mercerization treatments at two levels oftemperature (20C and 65C) under two different conditions (tension and slack). Non-mercerized fabric is served as control. Results show that mercerization treatments improve the tensile strength of cotton fabrics owing to reduced fibre crystallinityafter mercerization. Highest increase in tensile strength is observed in case of hot mercerization in slack condition. Increasein low-stress mechanical properties, such as tensile energy, bending rigidity and shear rigidity values, indicates higherstiffness/toughness of mercerized fabrics. This is further reflected in their high Koshi (stiffness/firmness), low Sofutosa(softness) and medium Fukurami (fullness) values. However, mercerization causes significant decrease in frictionalcoefficient and surface roughness, and results in improved total hand value (THV). Total hand values range from 3 to 3.61;with highest being presented by fabric mercerized under hot and slack conditions. High hand value indicates fair suitabilityof this fabric in wear comfort

    Counterfeit Currency Detection System

The elevation of color printing technology has increased the rate of fake currency note printing on a very large scale. Years before, the printing could be done in a print house, but now anyone can print a currency note with maximum accuracy using a simple laser printer. This results the issue of fake notes instead of the genuine ones has been increased very largely. India has been unfortunately damned with the problems like corruption and black money .The counterfeit of currency notes is also a big problem to it. This problem leads to design of a system that detects the fake currency note in a less time and in a more efficient manner. The proposed system gives an approach to verify the genuineness of Indian currency. Verification of currency note is done by the concepts of image processing. The above article describes extraction of various features of Indian currency notes. MATLAB software is used to extract the features of the note. The proposed system has got advantages like simplicity, high performance speed, portability. The result will predict whether the currency is counterfeit
